Exercise: Change the following active sentences into passive form.
0. She wrote a letter.
A letter was written by her.

1. Julia rescued three cats.

>> Three cats were rescued by Julia.

2. Steven has forgotten the books.
>>The books have been forgotten by Steven.

3. The teacher will not open the window.
>> The window will not (won’t) be opened by the teacher.

4. Susan is baking a cake.

>> A cake is being baked my Susan

5. Tim washed many cars.

>>Many cars were washed by Tim.

นักเรียนจะสังเกตได้ว่า การเปลี่ยนประโยครูป Active voice ให้อยู่ในรูปของ Passive จะมีจำนวนของคำกริยาเพิ่มขึ้นมาอีก 1 ตัว จาก 1 เป็น 2 จาก 2 เป็น 3 ดังตัวอย่าง นั่นก็เพราะว่ามีการเพิ่ม v. to be ลงไปหน้าคำกริยาหลัก และเปลี่ยนคำกริยาหลักให้เป็นรูป Past participle (V.3) นั่นเอง

Exercise: Change the following passive sentences into active form.
0. Pasta is being cooked by Jim.
Jim is cooking Pasta.

1. The words were explained by the teacher yesterday.
>> The teacher explained the words yesterday.

2. Many dishes were not washed by my little brother.
>> My little brother didn’t wash many dishes.

3. Photos are taken by me.

>> I take photos.

4. Housework is done by her.

>> She does housework.

5. Kevin asked Dennis a question.

>> Denis was asked a question by Kevin. (ข้อนี้เปลี่ยน Active เป็น Passive)

ในทางกลับกันการเปลี่ยนประโยครูป Passive e voice ให้อยู่ในรูปของActiv จะมีจำนวนของคำกริยาลดมาอีก 1 ตัว จาก 2 เหลือเพียงแค่ 1  และ จาก 3 เป็น 2 ดังตัวอย่าง นั่นก็เพราะว่ามีการตัดเอา v. to be ออกไปและเอากริยาหลักกลับมาทำหน้าที่เป็นช่องเดิมตามโครงสร้างนั่นเอง

Exercise: Analyze whether these sentences are active or passive voice.

2. She is reading the news paper now.            = Active (Present Continuous Tense)

6. Grapes are grown in California.                  = Passive (Present Simple Tense)

8. I made a big mistake.                                  = Active (Past Simple Tense)
9. Laura is being punished by her teacher.      =Passive (Present Continuous Tense)
